Clemson GPA Calculator
This Clemson GPA calculator uses Clemson University’s own rules: A to F with no plus or minus, an I counted as an F, both grades of a retaken C or D, and Academic Forgiveness for two D or F courses. It also checks your Dean’s List, probation and LIFE GPA status. Not at Clemson? Use our GPA calculator semester by semester.
Free to use, no sign-up, and every calculation happens in your browser. Not affiliated with Clemson University.
Enter this term’s Clemson courses with their credit hours and grades, and mark any retake. Add your iROAR totals to see your cumulative GPA, your standing, the Dean’s and President’s Lists, Latin honors and your LIFE GPA.
In iROAR, open Student, Student Records, Academic Transcript and scroll to Transcript Totals (Undergraduate) for your GPA Hours and Quality Points; quality points give the exact result. Leave the record blank to work out this term alone.
Retaking a course? Was C or D and Was F keep both grades in your GPA. Forgive D and Forgive F use Academic Forgiveness: the earlier grade leaves your GPA, for two courses at most, counting any you have already forgiven. Forgive only does the same for a D or F you are not retaking: add that course with its old grade. A retake of a course you passed with a B or better comes off your record (Was B or A).
A 3.19 Clemson cumulative GPA is 2.0 or higher, so you are in good academic standing.
- Quality points: 49 this term, 188.5 in total
- GPA hours: 14 this term, 59 in total
- Not in the GPA: Elective (P/NP)
- LIFE Scholarship: your 3.19 LIFE GPA meets the 3.00 renewal line; renewal also needs an average of 30 earned hours a year
Dean’s List: this term qualifies, with a 3.50 GPA on 14 hours. Clemson asks for a 3.50 to 3.99 semester GPA in fall or spring on at least 12 hours, not counting Pass/No Pass work.
President’s List: not this term. It has a 3.50 GPA (under 4.00). Clemson asks for a 4.00 semester GPA in fall or spring on at least 12 hours, not counting Pass/No Pass work.
Latin honors: Cum laude starts at 3.70. Your cumulative GPA is 3.19.
Plan ahead: to reach a 3.30 Clemson GPA, you need at least a 3.72 next term on 15 hours.
What each course adds

Clemson GPA rules at a glance
Most of what decides a Clemson GPA fits in one table. Each row comes from Clemson’s catalog or from the office that runs the rule, and the calculator above applies every row that changes a GPA or a GPA check.
| Rule | What Clemson does |
|---|---|
| Letter grades | A, B, C, D and F. Undergraduate courses have no plus or minus grades and no A+. |
| Quality points | A 4, B 3, C 2, D 1 and F 0 for each credit hour. |
| Incomplete (I) | Counts as an F until you complete the work, and turns into a final F if it isn’t done in time. |
| P, NP, W and audits | Stay out of your GPA hours. You can’t choose pass/no pass for a letter-graded course. |
| Transfer, AP and IB credit | Adds hours but no Clemson GPA. Grades from other colleges do count in your LIFE GPA. |
| Retakes | A retaken C, D or F keeps both grades. Retaking a course you passed with a B or better takes the new attempt off your cumulative summary. |
| Academic Forgiveness | Removes up to two D or F courses from your GPA, for Clemson courses taken in fall 2003 or later. |
| Dean’s and President’s Lists | 3.50 to 3.99, or a 4.00, in a fall or spring semester of at least 12 hours, Pass/No Pass not counted. |
| Academic Alert and probation | Alert below a 1.5 semester GPA. Probation below a 2.0 cumulative GPA. |
| Latin honors | Cum laude 3.70, magna cum laude 3.85 and summa cum laude 3.95, on your cumulative GPA. |
| Graduation | A 2.0 cumulative GPA, with 37 of your last 43 credits taken at Clemson. |
| LIFE Scholarship | A 3.0 LIFE GPA across every college you’ve attended, plus an average of 30 earned credit hours a year. |
| Decimals | Clemson’s Academic Success Center cuts GPA results to two decimals instead of rounding them. |
How to use the Clemson GPA calculator
- Open Transcript Totals in iROAR. Log in, choose the Student tab, then Student Records and Academic Transcript. Pick the undergraduate level, select Submit and scroll down to Transcript Totals (Undergraduate).
- Copy your record. Type its GPA Hours and Quality Points into the calculator. Your current GPA works too, but quality points are exact. In your first term, leave the record blank.
- Add this term’s courses. Give each course its credit hours and its letter grade. I counts as an F. P, NP, W and AU are in the same list, and the results name them as outside your GPA.
- Mark retakes and forgiveness. The Retake column offers First try, Was C or D, Was F, Forgive D, Forgive F, Forgive only and Was B or A. If you’ve had courses forgiven before, enter how many in Courses forgiven so far, so you’re held to two in total.
- Choose the term and your standing. Pick Fall or spring, or Summer, and the standing you started the term with. On probation, also enter your attempted hours so far, transfer and exam credit included, so the check uses your exact minimum GPA line.
- Add other colleges for your LIFE GPA. Enter the GPA hours and GPA you earned anywhere else, dual-enrollment courses from high school included. Leave out AP, IB and pass/fail credit.
- Set a goal. Type the Clemson GPA you want and how many hours you’ll take next term. The plan line gives the term GPA that gets you there.
You get three GPAs back: this term, your Clemson cumulative GPA and your LIFE GPA. Below them sit your standing for next semester, both honor lists, your Latin honors band and the LIFE renewal line. What each course adds opens a row-by-row breakdown, and Copy keeps the whole result.
An example term is filled in when the page loads, and Reset brings it back.
Clemson grading scale: A to F with no plus or minus
Clemson grades undergraduates on a plain A to F scale. An A brings 4 quality points for every credit hour, a B brings 3, a C 2 and a D 1, while an F brings none. There’s no A+, so 4.00 is the top GPA, and there’s no A- to pull an A down to a 3.7.
| Grade | How the catalog describes it | Quality points per credit hour |
|---|---|---|
| A | Excellent: “work of a very high character,” the highest grade given | 4 |
| B | Good: definitely above average | 3 |
| C | Fair: average work | 2 |
| D | Pass: below average, the lowest passing grade | 1 |
| F | Failed: the course has to be repeated to earn credit | 0 |
| I | Incomplete: part of the work is still undone | 0, counted as an F until made up |
Where the plus and minus values come from
Some GPA calculators online give Clemson grades values like A- 3.70 or B+ 3.30. Those numbers aren’t Clemson’s.
Since fall 2018, some graduate-level courses may award plus and minus grades, to graduate students only. The Registrar’s transcript legend values them at A- 3.66, B+ 3.34, B- 2.66, C+ 2.34 and C- 1.66. An undergraduate gets a plain letter even in a graduate-level course, so your GPA runs on the scale above.
Is there a percentage scale?
Not one set by the university. The catalog describes each letter in words and gives no percentages, so the cutoff for an A comes from your course. Check the grading scale in your syllabus. The calculator only needs the letter grade you end up with.
How Clemson calculates your GPA, with a worked example
Clemson’s formula for your grade point average divides your total quality points by your total GPA hours, and only courses taken at Clemson count. Your GPA hours take in every course graded A to F, plus any Incomplete not yet made up.
GPA = total quality points ÷ total GPA hours
- For each course, multiply the credit hours by the grade’s points. A 4-hour B earns 12 quality points.
- Add up the quality points, and add up the hours of the courses that count.
- Divide the points by the hours.
| Course | Hours | Grade | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calculus I | 4 | B | 12 |
| General Chemistry I | 4 | A | 16 |
| Composition | 3 | A | 12 |
| Intro to Psychology | 3 | B | 9 |
| Elective (pass/no pass) | 1 | P | Not counted |
| Total in your GPA | 14 | 49 |
49 ÷ 14 = 3.50 for the term. The elective earns its hour of credit, but a P never enters the division.
For your cumulative GPA, add the term to your iROAR totals. If Transcript Totals shows 45 GPA hours and 139.5 quality points, a 3.10, this term takes you to 188.5 points over 59 hours, or 3.1949.
Clemson’s Academic Success Center cuts GPAs off after two decimals instead of rounding them, so that 3.1949 shows as 3.19, and a 3.4985 would show as 3.49, not 3.50. This calculator cuts the same way and prints the longer figure under the result when it drops digits.
You’ll see this term and these totals when the calculator first loads. There, Intro to Psychology is marked Was C or D, a retake whose earlier grade stays in your record. Both grades count, so the numbers come out the same.
Which grades count as an F, and which stay out of your GPA
| Grade | What it means | In your GPA? |
|---|---|---|
| I | Incomplete | Yes, as an F (0 points) until you finish the work. It becomes an F if it isn’t resolved within 30 days of the first class day of the next session, not counting summer. |
| F | Failed | Yes, at 0 points. It stays in your GPA after you pass a retake unless you have it forgiven. |
| P | Pass, which the transcript legend equates with a C | No. You earn the credit without quality points. |
| NP | No Pass | No. No credit and no points. |
| W | Withdrew, after the first two weeks and before the last five weeks of classes | No |
| AU | Audit | No. An audit earns no credit. |
| FGD, FGF | Forgiven D, forgiven F | No. Academic Forgiveness took them out. |
| SCP, SCD, SCN | Spring 2020 grades | No |
| Transfer and exam credit | Credit from other colleges, AP or IB | No. These add hours only. |
Two more rules are easy to miss. P and NP exist only in courses offered as pass/no pass, so you can’t switch a letter-graded course to pass/fail. And retaking a course doesn’t clear an Incomplete: the unfinished work has to be done, normally with one extension at most.
Transfer, AP and dual-enrollment credit
Credit from another college, from AP or IB exams or from dual-enrollment courses adds to your hours, not to your Clemson GPA. The catalog divides by “the total number of GPA hours at Clemson,” so a transferred A can’t raise your average. The lowest grade Clemson accepts in transfer is a C.
Those outside grades still count in two places. Transfer and exam credit go into the attempted hours behind your probation minimum. And every grade from another college goes into your LIFE GPA, even a course that didn’t transfer because the grade was too low.
Does retaking a class replace the grade at Clemson?
No. Unless you use Academic Forgiveness, a retake adds a second grade to your record, and what happens next depends on the first one.
| First grade | What the retake does |
|---|---|
| C | Both grades count in your GPA. A C can never be forgiven. |
| D | Both grades count, unless you apply Academic Forgiveness to the D. |
| F | Both grades count, unless you apply Academic Forgiveness to the F. |
| B or A | The retake’s credits and quality points come off your cumulative summary, so even an A changes nothing. |
The course’s credit counts once toward graduation either way. If you’d already passed the course, the repeat’s hours don’t count as hours passed when Clemson checks your eligibility, or as hours completed for financial aid.
Suppose your record shows a 2.40 on 60 GPA hours, or 144 quality points, and one of those courses is a 3-hour D. You retake it and earn a B. With both grades counted, you have 153 points over 63 hours, a 2.42.
Apply Academic Forgiveness to the D and its 3 hours and 3 points leave the record, which gives you 150 points over 60 hours, a 2.50. On the retake’s row, that’s the difference between Was C or D and Forgive D.
Clemson Academic Forgiveness: up to two D or F courses
Academic Forgiveness takes a D or F out of your GPA calculation. You can use it on two courses at most, and the conditions are strict:
- It covers only Clemson courses taken in fall 2003 or later, never one taken pass/no pass.
- Each course can be forgiven once, and forgiveness can’t be reversed.
- It isn’t allowed on a course where you were found to have broken the academic integrity policy.
- You may forgive a D or F in a required course before you retake it. A course you use for a graduation requirement still has to be passed at Clemson, and both grades stay on your transcript and degree progress report.
- A forgiven course can’t satisfy a prerequisite, and it can’t be replaced afterward by a course substitution or by transfer credit for the same course.
- It ends when you graduate. A retake after graduation counts both grades.
Talk to your academic advisor first. Then file the request in iROAR under Student Self-Service, Student Records, Request Academic Forgiveness.
Forgiveness also lowers your earned credit hours while it raises your GPA, and scholarships renew on both, so read the LIFE section below before you file.
To try it here, mark the retake’s row Forgive D or Forgive F. For a D or F you aren’t retaking, add that course with its old grade and choose Forgive only. The calculator stops at two forgiven courses, counting any you enter in Courses forgiven so far.
Academic Renewal after two years away
Academic Renewal is a separate, one-time fresh start. If you haven’t enrolled at Clemson for two or more academic years, you can ask the Appeals Committee on Academic Eligibility to readmit you under it, unless you were permanently dismissed.
Your old attempted hours and grade-point deficit then stop counting against your new GPA, but none of the courses you passed before count toward a Clemson degree either. The old record stays on your transcript with a renewal notation, and federal financial aid still looks at those earlier terms.
What GPA do you need for the Dean’s List at Clemson?
You need a semester GPA from 3.50 to 3.99 for the Clemson Dean’s List, and a 4.00 for the President’s List. Both need at least 12 semester hours, and Pass/No Pass hours don’t count toward the 12. Clemson compiles the lists only after fall and spring semesters, so a summer term can’t earn either one.
The 12-hour rule can catch a full schedule that includes pass/no pass work. Eleven letter-graded hours of straight A’s plus a 1-hour P course is a 4.00 on 12 hours of classes, but only 11 hours count, so it misses both lists. The list check here counts graded hours only and says which line a term meets.
Clemson News publishes the names once each term’s lists are compiled. The fall 2025 lists came out on February 3, 2026, and the spring 2026 lists on June 30, 2026.
What GPA puts you on academic probation at Clemson?
You go on academic probation when your cumulative GPA drops below 2.0. A semester GPA below 1.5 puts you on Academic Alert, whatever your cumulative GPA. Neither one appears on your permanent record.
On probation you can take 16 credit hours at most unless your advisor approves more, and Clemson expects you to take part in Success Matters, its academic recovery program. Probation alone doesn’t end your enrollment. Whether you stay depends on three eligibility standards.
Three ways to stay eligible on probation
Meeting any one of these at a check keeps you enrolled:
- Your cumulative GPA is back at 2.0 or higher, which also ends probation.
- You pass at least 12 graded credit hours with a semester GPA of 2.4 or higher. Retakes of courses you’d already passed don’t count as hours passed.
- Your cumulative GPA reaches the minimum cumulative GPA (MCGPA) for your attempted hours.
| Overall attempted hours | MCGPA |
|---|---|
| 1 to 89 | 1.85 |
| 90 or more | 2.00 |
Attempted hours here include everything you’ve attempted at Clemson plus transfer and exam credit, while the GPA side uses Clemson grade points only. A student who arrived with a lot of transfer or AP credit can reach 90 attempted hours, and the stricter 2.00 line, sooner than their Clemson GPA hours suggest.
The 12-hour standard is the one that rescues a low average. Take a student on probation with a 1.50 on 45 GPA hours. A 12-hour semester of two B’s and two C’s is a 2.50 term, which lifts the cumulative GPA only to 1.71, under both 2.0 and the 1.85 MCGPA.
But 12 graded hours passed at 2.4 or better meets the second standard, so the student stays eligible. The calculator reports Still on probation, with that reason.
When Clemson checks, and what happens next
- A new student is first checked at the end of their second fall or spring semester.
- If both of those semesters ended on probation, a new student without an Academic Alert may enroll for a third semester and must meet a standard by its end. Missing it brings a one-semester suspension that can’t be appealed.
- A new student with an Academic Alert in that second probation semester is suspended for the next fall or spring straight away.
- After three fall or spring semesters, you’re checked at the end of each one. Two semesters in a row on probation without meeting a standard means suspension for the next fall or spring semester.
- A suspension lasts one semester, and you don’t need an appeal to come back.
- A suspension that would start after spring can be canceled in summer sessions: meet a standard by the end of summer and you return in the fall. With fewer than 12 graded hours in summer, the target rises under a Part Time Agreement with Undergraduate Learning, such as a 2.8 on 6 credits or a 2.6 on 9.
- Back from a suspension, you’re checked each fall and spring until your GPA reaches 2.0. Missing the standards then leads to dismissal, though summer sessions after spring can still head it off.
- Returning after a dismissal takes a successful appeal at least one calendar year later. A second miss after that is a permanent dismissal, which can’t be appealed.
- Readmitted on an appeal, you’re checked each fall and spring until you reach 2.0. Missing a standard then brings a suspension or dismissal you can’t appeal.
Appeals go to the Appeals Committee on Academic Eligibility, which meets in early January, mid-April and about a week after August final exams. Set Your standing now to On probation, Facing suspension, Back on appeal or Back from suspension, and the calculator applies the matching rule to a fall, spring or summer term.
Latin honors at Clemson: cum laude, magna and summa
Clemson awards Latin honors at graduation on your cumulative GPA: cum laude from 3.70, magna cum laude from 3.85 and summa cum laude from 3.95.
| Honor | Cumulative GPA |
|---|---|
| Cum laude | 3.70 to 3.84 |
| Magna cum laude | 3.85 to 3.94 |
| Summa cum laude | 3.95 or higher |
The cumulative GPA covers Clemson courses only, so transfer grades can’t move your honors band in either direction. Latin honors are also separate from the Honors College, which has its own 3.40 rule in the table further down.
To graduate at all, you need a 2.0 cumulative GPA, official acceptance into your major by the diploma application deadline, and 37 of your last 43 credits taken through Clemson.
Your LIFE GPA is not your Clemson GPA
The LIFE GPA is an all-college GPA used for one thing: renewing South Carolina’s LIFE Scholarship. Clemson’s Office of Student Financial Aid calls it “distinctively different” from the Clemson GPA used for graduation and other merit scholarships.
It counts every grade you’ve earned at Clemson plus every grade you’ve attempted at any other college, in state or out of state, except remedial courses. That includes dual-enrollment courses from high school and courses that never transferred because the grade was too low. AP, IB and pass/fail credit stay out.
To renew LIFE, you need both of these:
- a cumulative LIFE GPA of at least 3.0 by the end of the academic year;
- an average of 30 earned credit hours per academic year, counting fall, spring and summer. That’s 30 after your first year, 60 after your second and 90 after your third, and AP and dual-enrollment credit can count toward the hours. Use LIFE in a summer and that year’s target drops to 27.
LIFE is awarded one year at a time. Clemson reviews you after the spring term and again after summer sessions, and your current LIFE GPA is in iROAR under the S.C. LIFE Scholarship GPA link.
State law also has LIFE recipients sign an affidavit that they’ve sent Clemson every college transcript, even for courses taken while still in high school. ClemsonLIFE turns up in the same searches, but it’s a separate Clemson program, not this scholarship.
A worked LIFE GPA example
Financial Aid’s worksheet multiplies each college’s GPA by its GPA hours to get quality points, adds them up and divides by the total GPA hours. Picture a record of 45 GPA hours and 139.5 quality points at Clemson, a 3.10, plus 12 hours of dual-enrollment courses from high school with a 2.50.
| College | GPA | GPA hours | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clemson | 3.10 | 45 | 139.5 |
| Dual enrollment, in high school | 2.50 | 12 | 30 |
| Total | 57 | 169.5 |
169.5 ÷ 57 = 2.97. That’s under the 3.0 renewal line, even though the Clemson GPA is still 3.10.
To check it here, put the 12 hours and the 2.50 in GPA hours elsewhere and GPA elsewhere. With no courses entered for this term, the LIFE GPA box shows the same 2.97, and any courses you add go into both GPAs.
Academic Forgiveness and LIFE
Forgiveness can lift the GPA your renewal is judged on while lowering your earned hours, and LIFE renewal needs both a 3.0 and those hours. Ask the Office of Student Financial Aid before you file. If you’re trying to regain a scholarship for the coming year, Clemson needs your forgiveness request before the first day of fall classes.
Forgiveness you mark in the calculator comes off your Clemson record before the LIFE GPA is worked out, so compare that figure with iROAR once the Registrar has made the change.
Other Clemson GPA lines worth knowing
Several Clemson rules hang on a GPA, and they don’t all use the same one.
| What it’s for | GPA needed | Which GPA |
|---|---|---|
| Graduation | 2.0 | Clemson cumulative |
| Good standing, no probation | 2.0 | Clemson cumulative |
| Staying enrolled on probation | 1.85 or 2.00 by attempted hours, or 2.4 on 12 graded hours passed | Clemson cumulative, or the semester |
| Dean’s List, President’s List | 3.50 to 3.99, 4.00 | Fall or spring semester, 12 or more hours without P/NP |
| Latin honors | 3.70, 3.85, 3.95 | Clemson cumulative |
| LIFE Scholarship renewal | 3.0, plus an average of 30 earned hours a year | LIFE GPA, all colleges |
| First-year recruiting and Clemson Foundation scholarships | 3.0, plus 24 credit hours passed a year | Clemson cumulative |
| Honors College good standing | 3.40 | Clemson cumulative |
| Joining the Honors College as a current student | 3.40 by the end of the semester you apply | Clemson cumulative |
| Transfer admission | 2.5, with 3.0 preferred | Your cumulative GPA at other colleges |
First-year recruiting scholarships are checked after spring grades post, and courses in the summer that follows can make up hours or GPA.
In the Honors College, a cumulative GPA between 2.80 and 3.40 at the end of a term means Honors probation, with two semesters to get back to 3.40. Membership ends if your GPA drops below 2.80 at any point or stays below 3.40 for three semesters in a row.
First-year students who finish their first semester below 2.80 go on Early Probation instead and have until the end of their second semester to reach 2.80. Some Honors grants and study-travel experiences ask for a 3.50 when you apply.
What GPA do you need to get into Clemson?
Clemson doesn’t publish a minimum or an average high school GPA, weighted or unweighted, for first-year applicants, and the average GPA field in its 2025-2026 Common Data Set is left blank. What it does publish shows how strong the grades are:
- Clemson rates academic GPA, class rank and the rigor of your courses as “very important,” a step above test scores.
- Of first-year students who enrolled in fall 2025, 85.95% had a high school GPA of 4.0 on the Common Data Set’s 4.0 scale, and 95.41% had 3.75 or higher.
- First-year students who enrolled in fall 2026 had middle-50% SAT scores of 1250 to 1390 and ACT scores of 28 to 33, and 51.2% graduated in the top 10% of their class.
- Clemson accepted 42% of first-year applicants for 2025, and it is test-optional.
How Clemson reads your high school grades
You report your own grades. Clemson’s Self-Reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS) has you list every course and grade as they appear on your transcript. Weighting shows only through marking a course as honors, AP or dual enrollment.
Admitted students send official transcripts before they enroll, and Clemson doesn’t describe recalculating anyone’s GPA.
Transfer applicants
Transfer applicants need a year of college after high school with 30 semester hours of transferable credit, and AP, IB and dual-enrollment credit doesn’t count toward the 30. You also need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, and Clemson prefers 3.0. A few majors set a higher bar:
| Major | GPA required |
|---|---|
| Construction science and management | 3.0 |
| Graphic communications | 2.8 |
| Early childhood, elementary, secondary and special education | 2.75 |
| General engineering | 2.7 |
Transfer applicants skip STARS and send final official transcripts from every college they’ve attended instead. After you enroll, your Clemson GPA starts fresh with your first Clemson course, because transfer grades don’t carry into it.
How to raise your Clemson GPA
A GPA moves by quality points, and a long record moves slowly, because every new grade is averaged with all the hours behind it. Start from a 2.80 on 60 GPA hours, which is 168 quality points, and aim for a 3.00 after a 15-hour term. A 3.00 on 75 hours is 225 points, so the term has to bring 57: a 3.80.
The plan line under the calculator does this sum for you and rounds the needed GPA up, so hitting it really gets you to your goal.
Forgiveness on an F raises a GPA without a single new grade. On the same record, forgiving one 3-hour F takes away 3 hours and no points, leaving 168 points over 57 hours: a 2.94, before you even retake the class. Retake it for a B and you’re at 177 points over 60 hours, a 2.95.
Other moves help less, or not at all. Forgiving a D gains less than forgiving an F, because a D already brings some points, and a C can’t be forgiven. Retaking a course you passed with a B or better changes nothing, because the retake comes off your cumulative summary. A pass/no pass course adds hours toward graduation but no quality points.
Summer grades do count in your cumulative GPA, and a summer term is how a student facing suspension after spring can still meet a standard before fall.
How this Clemson GPA calculator works
Every rule here comes from what Clemson publishes. The 2026-2027 Undergraduate Catalog sets the grades, retakes, Academic Forgiveness, the honor lists, Latin honors and academic eligibility. The Office of the Registrar, Undergraduate Learning and the Office of Student Financial Aid fill in the details of the rules they run.
The math works in quality points throughout, so nothing drifts from repeated rounding. GPAs are cut to two decimals, as Clemson’s Academic Success Center does, and a needed GPA is rounded up.
Retakes of a C, D or F keep both grades, and a retake of a B or better is left out. Forgiveness removes the earlier D or F from your record, for two courses at most. On probation, all three standards are tested, and the result names the one you meet or miss.
The calculator only knows what you type, so check your totals against iROAR. It also can’t tell which courses count toward your major, or the GPA a department asks for before you move from General Engineering or Pre-Business into a degree major.
An appeal, a Part Time Agreement or an advisor’s approval is a decision only Clemson can make. For the LIFE GPA, the S.C. LIFE Scholarship GPA link in iROAR has the official figure.
Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you enter is stored. Calculate Your Grade isn’t affiliated with Clemson University, and your official GPA is the one on your transcript.

Frequently asked questions
Does Clemson use a 4.0 GPA scale?
Yes. An A is worth 4.0 per credit hour and an F 0.0, and with no A+ for undergraduates, 4.00 is the top of the scale.
Does Clemson have plus and minus grades?
Not for undergraduates, who get only A, B, C, D or F. Since fall 2018, some graduate-level courses may give plus and minus grades to graduate students, worth 3.66 for an A- down to 1.66 for a C-.
How do I find my GPA hours and quality points in iROAR?
Open the Student tab, then Student Records and Academic Transcript, choose the undergraduate level and submit. The Transcript Totals (Undergraduate) section at the bottom lists your Attempted, Passed, Earned and GPA Hours, your Quality Points and your GPA.
Does an Incomplete hurt my Clemson GPA?
Yes, until you finish the work: an I counts as an F, so its hours go into your GPA with zero points. The final grade then replaces it, but an I left unresolved 30 days into the next session (summer excluded) turns into an F.
Do transfer grades count in my Clemson GPA?
No. Your Clemson GPA uses grades earned at Clemson only, and transferred courses add credit hours without grades. Those outside grades still count in your LIFE GPA, and transfer credit counts toward the attempted hours behind the probation minimum.
Does retaking a class at Clemson replace the old grade?
Not on its own. After a C, D or F, both attempts stay in your GPA, though Academic Forgiveness can remove a D or F. If the first grade was a B or better, Clemson takes the retake off your cumulative summary instead, so it can’t raise your GPA.
How many courses can Academic Forgiveness remove at Clemson?
Two, over your whole time at Clemson, and only courses with a D or F taken at Clemson in fall 2003 or later. Each forgiveness is permanent once applied.
Will Academic Forgiveness affect my LIFE Scholarship?
It can, in both directions: forgiveness may raise the GPA used for renewal while cutting the earned hours LIFE also counts. Ask the Office of Student Financial Aid before filing, and to regain a scholarship for next year, submit the request before the first day of fall classes.
What GPA do you need for the President’s List at Clemson?
A 4.00 semester GPA, in fall or spring, on 12 or more hours, with Pass/No Pass courses left out. A 3.50 to 3.99 on the same hours makes the Dean’s List instead.
What is the lowest GPA Clemson will accept?
For first-year applicants, Clemson publishes no minimum, and most first-year students who enroll had a 4.0 in high school. Transfer applicants need at least a 2.5 college GPA, and some majors ask for up to 3.0.
Does Clemson recalculate your high school GPA?
Clemson doesn’t say it does. Applicants enter each course and grade in STARS exactly as their transcript shows them, and the only weighting they add is marking courses as honors, AP or dual enrollment.
Does Clemson round GPAs up?
No. Clemson’s Academic Success Center drops every digit after the second decimal, so a 3.6789 shows as 3.67, and this calculator does the same.
